Undaunted by the wet and wild weather of the previous few days, nine brave Harriers joined the start line for the 2009 Seagrave Wolds Challenge.
Following torrential rain the previous night, it was only ever going to be mud, glorious mud, on this 15.7 mile cross country course. But the sun managed to break through for the first six miles and the first checkpoint was easily reached by the newly formed Trevor’s Intrepid Trekking Squad (aka T.I.T.S). After managing to drag themselves away from all the cakes and tea, they finally reached the 2nd checkpoint at 11 miles by which time the weather had taken a turn for the worse.
Despite replenishment of more cakes and drinks, the last few miles (and stiles!!) proved the hardest with gale force winds and cold rain. However, with encouragement and support from each other they all made it home and were rewarded at the end with hot food, drinks and more cakes!!!
Fastest Harrier Dave Kind who completed the course in 2 hrs 10 mins, closely followed by Mark Perry (2:14). Next came the T.I.T.S - Kate R (3:36), Trev H (3:37), Zoe W (3:38), Sam A (3:39) Judith B (3:41 ) and Caroline S (3:41). The last Harrier to finish being Craig Bowley (4:56 ... we think he decided to walk).
Well done to ex Harrier Club Captain, JT who achieved second place in 1:48.
