A band of 10 Hermitage Harriers made their way across the county last Tuesday evening to join nearly 600 other competitors to take part in the Rothley 10K.
Starting in the village centre, and immediately taking the runners into a gruelling set of hills, the two lap undulating course culminated with a final quarter mile downhill sprint before a final uphill kick to finish.
Darren Weston was the first Harrier to complete the 6.2 mile course in 21st place in a fine time of 39:16.
Next to cross the line was Craig Johnson in 47:04 for 139th place, followed just over a minute later by Mia Weston in 48:09 (160th), and V70 Peter Leake in 48:30 (172nd).
Michelle Shillabeer clocked a time of 50:38 (230th), with Su Garner finishing in 53:13 (293rd). Caroline Scrimshaw recorded 56:12 (361st) and Judith Brand following just 8 seconds later in 56:20 (364th). Husband & wife duo Simon & Kelly Hammonds completed the Hermitage line up, crossing the finish line in 58:25 & 58:26 (397th / 398th).
The very next day Su Garner competed in another evening race, this time at Hinckley, for this years town centre 5K, and clocked a personal best time of 25:43. Claire Kiffin also ran the race, clocking 28:08.
