Three intrepid Hermitage Harriers made the hour trip up-North to the village of Clowne, near Worksop for the 26th annual Clowne Half Marathon.
This under appreciated event is not one for the feint hearted, and is considered to be one of the most challenging in the race calendar.
The day started with driving rain, but whilst the clouds later parted to bring blue skies ready for the race start, the high winds remained. Still, an improvement over this time last year, as the race was called off due to snow.
First Harrier to sprint across the finish line was Carl Rutt in a highly respectable time of 1:40:19 for 136th overall position.
Kate Reeves completed the 13.1 mile undulating route in 1:53:07 (317th).
Caroline Scrimshaw, ticked off her 9th half marathon in 2011 and completed the course in 1:59:17 (380th), representing a massive 10 minute betterment over her 2009 result.
The race was won by Barrow runner Stuart Robinson in an impressive 1:11:27, a full four minutes ahead of the second placed competitor.
The Hermitage Harriers meet each Tuesday & Friday at 6:45 at the Hermitage Leisure Centre, and welcome newcomers of all abilities.
